Home Depot Veteran's Discount

Home Depot offers a program that honors veteran’s by giving a ten percent discount, which sounds like a good deal, but let’s take a close look.

When you read the small print you discover the discount only applies to SOME items, IF they are in stock. It is not a general discount.

If you order through your account (you must set up) and order on-line, that works best. If you buy in-store at the cash register, after you are totaled, then you must use your cellphone to log onto your account/application and scan the QR code of each item purchased, and the cash register receipt to get credit to your account. You still pay the full amount at the cash register. For this to work, I think the veteran must charge the purchase to a Home Depot Credit Card.

ONLY the veteran can get the discount, not any family member, the purchase must be made by the veteran.

There is a limit of how much you can use the discount, after the veteran reaches the cap the discount can no longer be used for the rest of the year.

The fact is this program is mostly a PR stunt and it is so much trouble to use that mostly it is not worth the bother. What it does do is get the veteran’s eMail address and Home Depot starts pumping out the SPAM and advertisements to the veteran’s eMailbox.
